Skirt Power

According to Target, ”A new study shows that women are seen as more confident and that they make more money when they wear skirts, not a pantsuit, to work. You don’tneed to dress like a man to be taken seriously. Instead, be 100% positively, brilliantly, passionately you. It’s like they say: you go, girl.”

I am ALL for this.  I wear skirts or dresses 75% of the time — usually because I think they are more flattering on my body type than pants and a top.  So, needless to say, I am excited to see the results of this study… even if I don’t know the actual source. :)

Source here.

What about you?  Do you usually wear pantsuits, or skirts/dresses to work?  Do you think the results of this study are accurate?

My body makes no sense

Someone please explain to me how I managed not to gain a single pound on the cruise, even though I was eating (and drinking) 7000+ calories a day?! I really have no idea how many calories I consumed, but considering the fruity, sugary drinks (hello Pina Colada) and the warm chocolate melting cake that I enjoyed every day, I have to guess it was a ridiculously large amount each day. I am definitely happy that I didn’t gain weight while on the cruise, BUT…

… why can I not LOSE weight now that I am back home and eating 1200-1400 cals/day + exercise? Following the general weight loss rule of “eat less, move more” it doesn’t make any sense to me that I am not losing weight right now. I am BEYOND frustrated!

What is with this plateau? Anyone have ideas?

New Years 2012 Cruise

We just returned from a New Years Cruise and had a FANTASTIC TIME!!!   We went to Cozumel, Belize, Isla Roatan (Honduras), and Grand Cayman with 12 of our friends, and about 3,000 other new friends :)

This is a picture of a few of my girlfriends and I at one of the formal dinners (I am on the right)

Black Lace

A friend of mine from college recently posted a picture of her on facebook and she had on a dress that I instantly wanted.  Had to have.  I immediately googled until I found the dress online and then ordered it.  I love Google.  And this dress.  Check out the picture below.

I actually think it looks better on a fuller-figured girl… which is good news for me!  I ordered a size down as super motivation to work out and eat right so that I can wear it on the upcoming Cruise!

I know a Running Celebrity!

OK – maybe not a celebrity.  But Ben is on the cover of Runners World, so that is pretty impressive.  And to think… just a few short months ago, I was running with him at my first (unofficial) 5k.  So, basically, I ran with a running celebrity.  Does that make me a runner by proxy?

I’m a cheater…

… on my running shoe brand.  I’ve been loyal to Saucony’s for 14 years.  Mind you, I have never called myself a runner, but I have gone through through spurts (usually for weight loss) of running over the years, and I’ve always stayed true to the brand that I was matched with that fateful day of high school track & field practice.  My feet were wide and my arches high, but those Saucony’s wrapped them up in their blissful comfort and I’ve never looked back since.

But, as I recently signed up for a half marathon next May, I figured that is a good reason to get fitted again for shoes.  I walked into the local Fleet Feet and started the assessment.  The (very helpful) employee brought out a pair of Asics.  My heart dropped to my stomach.  How could I even think of putting a competitive brand on my feet??

Yet, I did.  And though I really did feel like I was cheating… my heart started pumping for another.  A shoe named Asics Gel Cumulus.  We’re early on in our relationship, but so far I’m very happy with him.  I’ll let you know how things progress.

What’s your favorite running shoe brand?

Tuck Your Skirt in Your Panties and Run

I wanted to introduce you all to a southern writer (native Georgian) who has just released her latest book humorous, true stories about surviving (and even prevailing over) unavoidable embarrassing moments written with a twang and drawl.  Let me sum up Lucy Adams in one word: HILARIOUS.  Literally.  At the time of this post, she had all 5 star reviews on Amazon.com.  That aint easy!   I found myself laughing out loud at times while reading the book… especially stories involving animals.. and their birthday parties.

The Hilarious Book

Just look at the praise this book is getting:

“Humorist Lucy Adams has found her voice!” - Tripp Bowden, author of Freddie & Me:  Life Lessons from Freddie Bennett, Augusta National’s Legendary Caddy Master

“Pour a tall glass of sweet iced tea, sit back and relax on the front porch and savor the down-home humor of Ms. Adams, but be warned, the tea’s just as cold coming out through your nose.” - Rick Rantamacki, author of Mental Notes – From the Brink of Reality

“Reading anything written by Lucy Adams is like solving the problems of the world, particularly the world of family life, over a cup of coffee with your best girlfriend. Her prose takes the mundane, morose and maddening things that are part of everyday life and weaves them into stories that will have you laughing, crying and mostly realizing that yes, you are pretty much like everyone else.” - Karin Calloway, editor, Augusta Family Magazine and author of Quick Cooking with Karin Calloway

Hi, Lucy Adams!

Tuck Your Skirt definitely captures the oft overlooked absurdity in everyday situations. Every story pulses with reality, which lends each to not only laugh-out-loud hilarity, but also to tenderness and timeless, honest reflections on life.   Don’t believe me?  Just listen for yourself… here’s an excerpt from the book: Tuck Your Skirt – Double Dog Dare Ya’
